FirstLight Fiber Acquires ColoSpace
Bolsters FirstLight’s data center, cloud and managed services offerings
December 10, 2019
FirstLight, a leading provider of fiber-optic data, Internet, data center, cloud computing, unified communications, advanced technologies and construction services to enterprise and carrier customers throughout the Northeast, announced today that it has acquired ColoSpace. Headquartered in Massachusetts, ColoSpace is a regional provider of colocation, managed IT services, cloud solutions, and disaster recovery services in New England.Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“The acquisition of ColoSpace fits well with our strategy of continuing to enhance our capabilities, and as such, it is an ideal match. Its data centers, located in Massachusetts and Southern NewHampshire, are in the heart of our service territory, and in fact, are currently connected to FirstLight’s fiber network. ColoSpace’s product portfolio is not only complementary but deepens and expands our service portfolio,” said Kurt Van Wagenen, President and CEO of FirstLight. “Now that this transaction is complete, we have added four data centers, with nearly 20,000 square feet of space, to our 11 existing, strategically located facilities. In addition, ColoSpace’s expertise in cloud and managed IT services will enhance our capabilities to the benefit of our customers.”
Founded in 1999, FirstLight has been building and operating its own fiber optic network for 20 years. With an expert team, FirstLight serves the networking needs of national telecommunications providers, CLECs, and leading enterprises, including healthcare organizations, high tech manufacturing and research facilities, financial institutions, colleges and universities, K-12 schools, public safety agencies, as well as local and state governments.
“Since founding ColoSpace nearly 20 years ago, we have been singularly focused on delivering high quality, innovative solutions to our customers. As enterprise cloud adoption continues to accelerate exponentially, comprehensive IT solutions coupled with scalable, low latency connectivity has become increasingly important to our clients. FirstLight, with its unparalleled fiber network and communications capabilities, is the ideal organization to enable our clients to benefit from these technology trends,” said Aaron D. Sawchuk, Co-Founder & Chairman, who will remain with the organization to help lead the Company’s Data Center/Cloud business.
“We are excited about the possibilities this transaction creates for FirstLight,” said Patrick Coughlin, Chief Development Officer for FirstLight. “Massachusetts is an area that we have been focused on continuing to grow as a result of our previous acquisition of 186 Communications. Leveraging ColoSpace’s history of success in this state will accelerate that growth.”

For others, hybrid cloud solutions enable them to leverage the scalability of cloud computing while maintaining the integrity of their data and ensuring compliance with regulatory mandates and compliance standards.

ColoSpace and IntraSystems Unite to Offer Desktop-as-a-Service
June 18, 2015
ColoSpace and IntraSystems are pleased to announce a Citrix-based Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) solution, the IntraCloud Virtual Workspace, Powered by ColoSpace, that can be accessed from anywhere in the world. DaaS brings together the desktop, applications, data, and IT services into a single cloud solution. This solution enables people to access all of their apps and data—cloud or local—from a hosted desktop on any device—Windows, Mac, tablet, or smartphone—from any location. With more and more companies having a mobile workforce and a greater global presence, DaaS is an ideal solution that not only saves money, but more importantly, secures applications. IntraSystems, the leading Citrix Platinum Solution and Service Provider in New England, and ColoSpace, the leading regional provider of data center colocation in New England, became partners in 2014 due to the strong demand for a solution such as DaaS. "It just made sense to partner in order to create a service that fulfills such a growing demand," says ColoSpace Co-Founder, Aaron Sawchuk. John Fox, ColoSpace COO added, "Companies are really seeking out flexible solutions that drive down their IT spend. This is a great extension to our suite of managed services that provides just that - a flexible and cost efficient, cloud based solution." Companies incur no additional hardware costs, lower ongoing support costs, and are fully compliant. DaaS also facilitates "Bring-your-own-device," a growing trend among companies, which encourages employees to use their own devices. IntraSystems creates the ideal customized Citrix environment while ColoSpace hosts the cloud-based service through one of its top tier SSAE18 certified data centers located throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire. People are able to access their critical business data and applications through any device, anywhere in the world. "Today, more companies see the value of provisioning desktops through a secure cloud service. Our partnership with ColoSpace allows us to offer customers a highly available and customized desktop solution at a fraction of the cost of a typical desktop solution," says Paul Kunze, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, IntraSystems.
